Holy shift is a paradigm shift, the end of a linear dream. A kind of “sacred” disorientation where it is better to stop looking for answers in familiar models and instead cultivate a new openness to change. Sometimes we can find the sacred in ruin, in disintegration, where a new version of the “sacred” may be hidden. Holy shift is an inner dislocation towards a new orientation, not towards power, but towards presence.

I don’t believe that the future will be built as a project… rather, it will be recognized by those who manage to listen to the void, to inhabit uncertainty without fleeing from it, to recognize in chaos the hidden grammar of another possibility (Mauro Astolfi).

After spending a long period in the US, Mauro Astolfi founded Spellbound Contemporary Ballet in 1994. The company continues to inspire many emerging choreographers and is a leader on the international scene thanks to the combination of Astolfi's personal portfolio, the technical excellence of the dancers, and a vision strongly linked to international openness that aims to create a high-profile model focused on the quality of projects and networking. Astolfi has created over thirty works for Spellbound in the company's twenty-seven years of activity. Astolfi is also very active as a freelance choreographer, creating works for Magdeburg Theater, Augsburg Ballet, Ballet Trier, Israel Ballet in Israel, Incolballet Colombia, Konzert und Theater St Gallen, Ballet Bern, Kitonb Extreme Theatre Company, Amsterdam Thatreschool, Balletto di Roma, Szegedi Kortárs Balett, Liepziger Ballet, Gärtnerplatztheater, River North Dance Chicago, Ballet Ex, Arts Umbrella, Backhaus Dance Company, Proartedanza, as well as for the musical opera I Promessi Sposi by M. Guardì and for the special project “Danza e/è Cultura” together with Adi Salant. Alongside his work as a choreographer, Astolfi is constantly engaged as a teacher: since October 2009, he has been Artistic Director of D.a.f. Dance Arts Faculty in Rome. From 2016 to 2018, he was a guest teacher at the Rome Opera House Ballet School.
