ORBITA|Spellbound hosts the only season in the city of Rome completely dedicated to contemporary dance. From January until May, a crossover programme that moves between Teatro Palladium, Spazio Rossellini and Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo makes it possible to follow the itineraries of single artists in different areas of the city.
The dance season is characterised by Focus On, monographic programmes dedicated to studying the aesthetics of single artists by hosting their various choreographic works, thanks to the collaboration of local, national and international institutions.
In autumn, the Centre is open as a place for artistic exchange and research through a programme of experimental practices brought together in the context of Orbita|Corpi in ascolto (Orbita | Listening Bodies). The programme includes SUPERNOVA, a series of events dedicated to the younger generations and to teacher training; ACCESSIBLE CREATIONS, residencies aimed to experiment with strategies for accessing marginalised communities; FOCUS ON, events focusing on international artists or types of performance related to specific geo-political areas and RESIDENCIES, schemes for supporting artistic research and creativity. In this diversified annual calendar, the programme of ORBITA | Spellbound, directed by Valentina Marini, may be considered an anchor for Italian choreographic production and a way to discover lesser-known international artists. This crossroad of activities is brought together to consolidate the already established relationship between ORBITA | Spellbound’s productions and the capital city of Rome, to embrace and promote contemporary dance creation by emerging and well-established artists, who are missing from the list of names found in large festivals.
