ALDES is an association of artists and cultural workers that since 1993, under the direction of Roberto Castello, has been producing and promoting works of experimental choreography with a focus on borderline forms between dance and visual arts, dance and new technologies, dance and theater, creating shows, videos, installations, performances and events that have as their object the body, movement and their representation. ALDES is supported by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism / General Directorate for Live Performing Arts and by the Region of Tuscany / Regional Performing Arts System and since 2013 has been an Artistic Residence within the framework of the Tuscan law for culture. It is also supported by the City of Capannori and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca.
Roberto Castello is among the choreographers who founded contemporary dance in Italy.
In the early 1980s he danced in Venice in Carolyn Carlson's "La Fenice Theater and Dance," where he made his first choreographies. In 1984, he is among the founders of Sosta Palmizi. In 1993, he founded ALDES. He is a winner of the UBU Prize in 1986, 2003, 2018 and 2022.
