Omar Rajeh is a choreographer, dancer and artistic director of the Maqamat company in Lebanon. He founded his company in Beirut in 2002 and has since toured the Arab world, Europe, Canada and Korea. He is the founder of Beirut International Platform of Dance - BIPOD, one of the most important dance festivals in Lebanon. He is the co-founder of Masahat Dance Network, a regional network of contemporary dance in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Jordan. This ambitious regional connection was further extended to the MOULTAQA LEYMOUN platform, which Rajeh created to provide the space and opportunity for young and established Arab artists to show and develop their work. In addition, Omar Rajeh recently founded the much-anticipated new performing arts space in the heart of Beirut - Citerne Beirut - which is set to nurture and further push Maqamat's existing projects towards an enriched experience, reaching a wider audience than ever before. Citerne Beirut was forced to be dismantled in August 2019. He is the founder of the digital cultural platform Citerne.live. In 2021, Omar Rajeh received the title of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters from French Minister Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, for his contribution and commitment to culture.
