Among the names of Italian excellence in the world, Jacopo Godani was born in La Spezia, Italy, where he began his studies and later landed at Maurice Béjart’s international dance centre, Mudra in Brussels. From 1991 to 2000, he was a leading soloist in William Forsythe’s Ballet Frankfurt and collaborated with Forsythe himself on the choreographic creation of many of Ballet Frankfurt’s most representative pieces. As a freelance author, he has choreographed for major international companies such as: Royal Ballet Covent Garden, Compañía Nacional de Danza, Nederlands Dans Theater, Royal Danish Ballet, Ballet Brish Columbia, Le Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse, Teatro alla Scala, Sydney Dance Company, Israeli Opera Ballet & Suzanne Dellal Centre, Het Nationale Ballet, Aterballetto, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo and many others. In 2015 he was appointed Artistic Director and Choreographer of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company a role he held until 2023. In his work, Godani conceives all the stages: from choreography to the design of the spaces, lights, objects, and environments in which the actions take place, to the texts of the dramaturgical structure and costumes, as well as the music for some of his performances.
