hosted in residency at Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo with Dove Hanno Tremato le Placche
- The title of our season is “Vertigine”. What is vertiginous to you?
Vertigo in my vision is like being in suspension, a sense of bewilderment that challenges perception, creating a precarious balance between what is real and what we perceive. This experience involves both my body and my emotions bringing me into a state of excitement and uncertainty.
- What power do dance practices have to change the imaginary and/or act the world?
Dance practice has the power to transform the imaginary and to influence the world by opening new spaces of understanding. At times, these spaces are revealed through fractures and lacerations of the material, while at other times it almost seems as if we are slipping into an unfamiliar, yet at the same time welcoming and gentle void.
- The relationship between body and archives is central in your work. What kind of archive do you refer to and through what practice is it embodied in your body? Or how conversely does your body return a material of memories on stage?
My work focuses on the link between body and archive, considering the body as a kind of repository of memories. This idea emerges through the exploration and evocation of memories during Dove Hanno Tremato le Placche. During the performance, I explore the characteristics of objects, mediums and materials, moving them with me. Each event alters the body and objects as they absorb and reflect the intensity of the experience. The performance explores the tension between the inside and the outside, revealing a deep intimacy during the action. This introspection, however, serves as a bridge to the broader theme of the invisibilization of the histories and memories of communities associated with the African diaspora in Italy. This track has been at the center of my research path, both in historical archives and in personal and popular archives. Rediscussing the logic of the archive has been interesting, looking for different ways of mapping, rearranging, disorganizing and classifying events. On a personal level, I felt the need to move effectively among objects and things, beyond the coordinates given from the outside.
