Creazioni Accessibili – One, Two, Through

by Sara Capanna-Barbara Carulli/Company Blue
artistic residency in December 2025

open rehearsal + talk: December 6, 6:30 PM

Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo

Creazioni accessibili is a research grant aimed at experimenting with accessible languages in the performing arts, through a residency within “Artisti in Orbita” — a platform supporting artistic research through the hosting of works in progress, theoretical accompaniment, and technical and curatorial supervision.

What happens during the residency: The goal of the residency is the creation or revision of performative works designed for blind and visually impaired audiences, developed under the mentorship of the artistic duo Giuseppe Comuniello and Camilla Guarino, the scientific supervision of researcher Flavia Dalila D’Amico, and in dialogue with part of Rome’s blind and visually impaired community.

The project is a collaboration with Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo, ATCL Circuito Multidisciplinare del Lazio, Unione Italiana Ciechi di Roma, Fondazione Con-Tatto, and Ass. Ipse Lab.

Bodies subjected to the bulimia of images, to the dynamics of consumption and the spectacularization of pain, grow thin and lose their sense of “being there.” Dance — made of molecular movements, vibration, reflection and contortion, empty and full gazes, punctual and peripheral — becomes a space of interruption. By becoming aware of the through, a new relationship becomes possible: one in which looking does not always and only remain looking.

Drawing on Susan Sontag’s Regarding the Pain of Others — in which she argues about the consumption of images, interweaving with the theme of the spectacularization of violence — the performance asks: How do we choose to look at these images? What is the degree of emotional intensity of this experience? In what way can the dance that emerges from the relationship between two bodies become an attempt to answer these questions? Images of pain seem to dissolve within a stream of information, advertising, and consumption. What happens in the space of interruption?

Sara Capanna is a performer, educator, and author. She trained at Art Factory International, a professional contemporary dance training programme in Bologna, and with L’Attore Dissennato — on the teachings of madness, curated by Animali Celesti teatro d’arte civile in Pisa, continuing to attend seminars and workshops with Elena Giannotti, Max Barachini, Julyen Hamilton, and others. Since 2019, she has worked with Animali Celesti as an actress and educator, developing a practice of presence for bodies-in-life. That same year, as a dancer she took part in the creation Ekphrasis by Paola Bianchi, and co-created her first work as an author together with Michele Scappa: Crepe | studi sulla fragilità della materia, with which they participated in festivals including Racconti di Altre Danze, Fuori Formato, and Altre Visioni, and were finalists for the Residanza and Twain_direzioni altre awards. Since 2020, she has collaborated as a dancer with Company Blu and as an actress and educator at the Teatro Stalla of the psychiatric community in Verdello. Since 2019, she has also been part of interdisciplinary research groups spanning various arts and disciplines: Generation Europe, a dialogue project between the arts and active citizenship; Rosario, on body music; and La Bionda Cumbiera.

Barbara Carulli is a dancer and author, trained at Opus Ballet in Florence. Over the years she has had the opportunity to explore the dance scene in Florence and Tuscany, deepening her training through contact with Cristina Rizzo, Virgilio Sieni, Massimiliano Barachini, Roberto Castello, Charlotte Zerbey, and Alessandro Certini. Since 2016, she has collaborated as a performer with the cultural association Versiliadanza. She dances in Lady Body and EGON, introspettiva da Klimt a Schiele by Leonardo Diana, A Leisurely Collapsing of the Thing into its Possibilities by Paul Anthony Dennis, and W Maria! a Women Symphony by Samuele Cardini. Since 2019, she has worked with choreographer Paola Bianchi, dancing in Ekphrasis and Other OtherNess. In 2022, she danced in My Body Trio by Stefania Tansini. In 2021, she embarked on her path as an author. Tracce | Looking for a place to die, winner of the Anghiari Dance Hub 2021 open call and produced by Company Blu, is her first work, created together with Sara Capanna and Michele Scappa.
