Cnosso offers a rereading of the myth of the Minotaur from an intimate, contemporary perspective. The production stages a figure who is no longer monstrous, but fragile, marginalized, and a mirror of the fractured identities of our time.
A distinctive element of the project is Malombra’s “Teatro di Luce” (“Theatre of Light”): a handcrafted, analogue technique that combines shadow theatre with cinematic language. Through the use of scenic models, moving light sources, and ever-shifting visual suggestions, the company builds three-dimensional landscapes in constant transformation.
The dramaturgy is entrusted to a single performer, while two shadow operators give body and dimension to the stage space and its mechanisms, taking on the role of deus ex machina within the narrative.
The Minotaur is portrayed as a woman: a body holding fragility, rage, and a desire for self-determination, imprisoned in a labyrinth of mirrors that multiply and fragment reality and identity. The performance unfolds through a visual and sound design in which light, shadow, and evocative images are in constant dialogue with the performer’s physicality.
