Creative residency from September to November 2026

“There is something necessary in a body that moves. Each person’s urgency emerges by struggling against limits, fears, inhibitions. Far from an executed dance, the body is aware and needs only a vector through which to channel its expressive energy. The vector is the one who moves with us, through whom we perceive our space, in responding to their stimuli, in the obligation to listen, to listen to ourselves.
Through work on relationship, breath, and intention, we reawaken a clarity that allows us to adhere deeply to the sources of our creativity. On the basis of a collective process, we place the body at the center of everything. We start again from the body. This lucid presence is the necessary and essential goal of our pedagogy.”

Corpo a(l) Corpo is a complex project now in its third year, conceived and co-produced by ORBITA|Spellbound and the Child Neuropsychiatry Unit of the Policlinico di Tor Vergata, with artistic direction by Balletto Civile. Although it opens to the public as a showing at Spazio Rossellini, it is the result of an intensive annual residency/workshop led by Balletto Civile and aimed at a group of adolescents followed by the Child Neuropsychiatry Unit directed by Professor Luigi Mazzone.
The urgency driving the physical and dramaturgical process is the increase, especially since the pandemic, in requests for help with psychological distress during adolescence. Never in this historical period have people in this age group found themselves caught in such a high-performance vortex, one that, through social media, demands overexposure, the constant invention of an identity, and the continuous updating of their certainties and knowledge, often causing great frustration.
In an attempt to respond to this distress, Balletto Civile, in collaboration with doctors from the unit and from Progetto Aita, joined by three practitioners trained in Rome to strengthen the initiative, created Corpo a(l) Corpo, a place where, for a moment, it is possible to suspend the voracious pace of social media in order to listen to oneself and let the desire for self-representation emerge.
The showing will be preceded by Lo sguardo performativo (“The Performative Gaze”): journalists from the teatroecritica editorial team will meet the audience in a guided viewing session aimed at questioning participants on the gaze of those who narrate dance in relation to the body of those who inhabit the performative space.
