Veduta _ Atlante Mediterraneo

This project stems from the shared interest of the mk company and the Orbita|Spellbound Centro Nazionale di Produzione della Danza in researching the body within landscape. Understood here as trajectory rather than territory, landscape becomes a dynamic place of intersection for different projects and influences, cultural stratifications and anthropological misunderstandings, shedding its perspectival connotation to take on the richness of a spherical vision of space projected into contemporaneity.

The show takes a modular format, adapted to the morphology of the city and to the views offered by its urban perspective. The audience experiences the performance through headphones, overlooking a panoramic point of the city identified case by case. The viewpoint is wide-ranging and can take in spaces both very near and very far, linked together by the soundtrack (recorded in holophony with a strong cinematic imprint) and by the placement of the performers.

Through listening, the panoramic view is transformed into a place floating between the present and the possible, into a genuine theorem on landscape; the spectator is immersed in a view that is no longer simply the softened image of what lies before them, but a concentration of coincidences and dynamic configurations that shift the gaze’s attention elsewhere, toward conflicting movements and information that go beyond the territorialization of the gaze and arrive at a hybrid, polyglot place of vision; it is a space of altermodernity, in which differences move beyond multiculturalism in favor of an intangible heritage of the body.

Reality is at times blurred, at times sharply brought into focus by sound, which governs the imaginative power of vision and makes possible a multiplication of details within a place of imaginary, contradictory coordinates.

Strange plots and mysterious activities redraw the here and now, rereading urbanity through the postures and signs of an elsewhere — one that reaffirms its own presence while eluding cultural identity — explored through spare, essential dances that can be very close or very far away, on the horizon. Inside and outside the gaze.

In this project, dance is thus literally a point of view on the world that inscribes and affirms the figure within the space of the community, while at the same time suggesting a way out.

The show is the result of a collaboration between artists from different backgrounds; alongside the company’s core group of performers, the show builds up dynamically through the participation of performers with other choreographic and cultural backgrounds, developing the polyglot nature of its premise: an imagination of landscape freed from territorial and identity-based constraints.
