Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo

RESERVE THE OPEN REHEARSAL

Creative residency, September 16–18
Open rehearsal on September 18 at 7:00 PM

At the begin of the work for her new creation, Irene Russolillo will work in the space of Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo, accompanied by the sound research of Edoardo Sansonne/Kawabate on the principles that will run through the research process. The focus is on the physical principle of vibration as a tool for improvisation and composition.

“When I first saw images of the Laulupidu festival, I was deeply struck by the scale and intensity of collective singing in Estonia. They conveyed to me a very powerful relationship between voice, public space, and cultural identity. That encounter became the spark for a broader research, eventually leading me to the story of the Singing Revolution, where the harmonizing of bodies and voices in public space seemed to give shape to a shared, non-diplomatic language, capable of activating forms of relation where the language of institutional diplomacy often shows its limits. Above all, it strengthened a question that has guided my work for several years: how voice can become a privileged point of access to the frictions and complex cultural and human entanglements. From that moment, the research gradually shifted from historical reflection to creative process, with the goal of creating the conditions in which encounters, fieldwork, and cultural immersion can further transform my artistic practice, and the performance Forget Diplomacy can emerge from this very process”.

Irene Russolillo is a dancer, vocalist, and choreographer with a nomadic and transdisciplinary approach to the stage. She develops personal projects and collaborations with artists from dance, visual arts, and music, in Italy and internationally. Since 2019, she has developed research projects that investigate the forms of voice and movement in relation to cultural erasure and social fragmentation, having had the opportunity and privilege to work—through residencies, collaborations, and research—in Italy, Armenia, and various African countries, particularly Senegal. Each project activates collaborative performative processes that question the relationship between cultural identity, historical memory, and the transformative potential of the performing arts, particularly in border territories and within minority cultural expressions. Her next project, *Forget Diplomacy*, will develop between Italy and Estonia, along one of the eastern borders of the European continent.

Edoardo Sansonne/Kawabate is a producer, singer, and composer of electronic music. He debuted in 2020 as Kawabate with *Epicentro*, on *Mutants Mixtape Vol. 2* alongside Arca and other international artists. His work spans composition, sound installations, video art, theater, and contemporary dance, investigating voice, landscape, and collective memory. He studied voice in Europe and the USA with Elise Witt, Oskar Boldre, Anita Daulne (Zap Mama), Nico Note, Rhiannon, and Margie Gillis, exploring harmonic singing with Alash Ensemble and Agnese Banti, and extreme vocal research with Miriam Granatello. His electronic training was guided by Alberto Ricca Bienoise and Spencer Doran (Visible Cloaks). He has collaborated with Karima 2G, Irene Russolillo, Elisa Sbaragli, Fabio Brusadin, Luca Brinchi, Daniele Spanò, and Mauro Pace. He took part in *If There Is No Sun* (Italy–Senegal), made his debut as a performer in *Fàtico* (2024), and worked on *Fatigue* and *Se domani*, at NID Platform 2024–2025.
