Creative residency, September 16–18
Open rehearsal on September 18 at 7:00 PM
At the begin of the work for her new creation, Irene Russolillo will work in the space of Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo, accompanied by the sound research of Edoardo Sansonne/Kawabate on the principles that will run through the research process. The focus is on the physical principle of vibration as a tool for improvisation and composition.
“When I first saw images of the Laulupidu festival, I was deeply struck by the scale and intensity of collective singing in Estonia. They conveyed to me a very powerful relationship between voice, public space, and cultural identity. That encounter became the spark for a broader research, eventually leading me to the story of the Singing Revolution, where the harmonizing of bodies and voices in public space seemed to give shape to a shared, non-diplomatic language, capable of activating forms of relation where the language of institutional diplomacy often shows its limits. Above all, it strengthened a question that has guided my work for several years: how voice can become a privileged point of access to the frictions and complex cultural and human entanglements. From that moment, the research gradually shifted from historical reflection to creative process, with the goal of creating the conditions in which encounters, fieldwork, and cultural immersion can further transform my artistic practice, and the performance Forget Diplomacy can emerge from this very process”.
